Description

The Austin Healey – or ‘Big’ Healey – is one of the iconic British sports cars. The first Austin-Healey 100 model was unveiled at the 1952 Earls Court Motor Show, and when the last car rolled off the production line in 1967, over 73,000 examples had been built.

Synopsis

The Austin-Healey ("Big" Healey) is one of the iconic British sports cars: the first Austin-Healey 100 model was unveiled at the 1952 Earls Court Motor Show, and when the last car rolled off the production line in 1967, over 73,000 examples had been built. The four and six-cylinder Healey 100s and the later 3000 model were masculine ‘hairy chested’ sports cars in the best tradition.
This edition is designed to appeal to all fans of British sports cars as well as to Austin-Healey owners and enthusiasts. The book features the complete history of the car; period and modern colour photographs; and production figures and specifications.
This is a reprint of Bill Piggott’s first Austin Healey book, although he has subsequently written two others, with a third being prepared.

***** A Great Book about a Great Car
By Michael P. Mcsheehy
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I really enjoy the Haynes Great Car Book series, and this book is no exception. Page after page is covered with beautiful, studio style color photographs (not retouched), accompanied by clear and concise text. The detailed exterior/interior photos make this book a valuable reference for both Austin Healey restorers and scale model builders. This book would make a great addition to any classic sports car enthusiast's library.

***** By Jack Turner
Had one, wish I had found the money to keep it. Bought a 1961 model in summer of 1966; had to sell it in 1973 and was dumbest decision ever made.

Independent Reviews

A lovely addition to Veloce’s Great Cars re-print series.
Total Kit Car

[An] excellent reference 160 page hardback ... Warning: Even if you do not own one right now you might very well end up wanting on having read these trusty volumes.
Big End / All Torque

This lavishly illustrated volume presents a very concise history of all the classic big Austin-Healey models from the initial, 1952 rugged 100 roadster version right through to the final, far more luxurious 3000 Mk. III convertibles that last rolled-off the production line in 1967 ... Of the more than half-a-dozen Austin-Healey books on my shelf, this one is my favourite.
Norm Mort

The book is very ‘readable’, and not too biased towards excessive technical detail. However, I liked the inclusion of various comparisons of price and performance with other sportscars of the time.
Roadster

… this unusually accurate, slickly presented and lavishly illustrated offering should find a place on many book shelves ... The author’s postscript gives away the fact that this is a re-issue of the Haynes Publishing 2002 release. So if, like me you missed getting a copy then, here is an opportunity to correct that.
Healey Torque

There is plenty to satisfy the anorak and race/rally enthusiast alike in terms of facts and figures, while ... copiously illustrated.
Retro Speed

… designed to appeal to all fans of British sports cars as well as to Austin-Healey owners and enthusiasts.
Press-Filmbüro Steinmill-Hommel

… a useful guide containing plenty of information
Classic & Sports Car

One for your bookshelf to delve back into as a reference book even for those long time owners of the marque.
