This book covers the background, conception, design, production and aftermath of the iconic Ferrari 288 GTO, including the prototypes, the early production cars, the mainstream production cars in their various specification guises, and the Evolution cars planned for the aborted Group B FIA race series.
It features over 400 relevant photographs, from original production images to the cars as they are today, including the 1984 Geneva Salon where the car debuted, the first ever GTO Reunion in 1985, current salon and action images, right up to the 25th Anniversary Ferrari 288 GTO Reunion held in America in 2009. Also featured are the actual factory production approval sheets, as filed with the Italian government, in an illustrated technical drawing form, along with a chassis by chassis register of every 288 GTO built, including destroyed prototypes, production cars, and GTO Evoluziones – in fact all 284 cars ever built.
This book contains essential resources covering all aspects of the car, including archives, maintenance specialists, restoration specialists, worldwide clubs, parts sources, etc. A comprehensive, beautifully illustrated look at a unique sports car, and a must-have for Ferrari fans.
Sackey’s book is attractively presented and contains many evocative images of the car undergoing testing and in this sense is a worthy volume to add to one’s collection.

Dominantly a visual feast. The text, although minimal, is highly informative, easy to read and downright inspiring ... this book is just about perfect. It made me fall in love with the 288 GTO all over again.

If you already own one of these cars, this book can hardly fail to be added to your collection without delay. And if you’re a non-owning enthusiast it will serve as a constantly enjoyable reference and give continuing visual pleasure.
Author Sackey follows up his brilliant Miura book with this great read on Ferrari’s 288 GTO. It covers the car’s background, design, production and legacy. There’s a foreword by the chief engineer, plus you get full stats, reproductions of magazine reviews and stunning photos.

Whether you are fortunate enough to own one, are planning to buy one, or simply dream of hopefully seeing one in person in your lifetime, you owe it to your Petrolista self to pick up a copy of The Book of the 288 GTO by Joe Sackey. Five years in the making, this is without a doubt the most comprehensive, most researched book on this legendary Ferrari ... makes a great addition to any enthusiast’s automotive bookshelf.
Joe has figured out how to create a book with 325 photos of essentially the same car and still make it interesting ... it’s difficult to imagine what further information on the car might fill the pages – as good a reason as any to pick up Joe’s book and fill in that empty slot in your Ferrari bookshelf.
Joe Sackey is an international Ferrari Supercar Specialist, focussing on the 288 GTO, F40, FSO and Enzo. His knowledge of the subject Is almost unparalleled ... This book is a completists paradise. But it's one that is imbued with the enthusiasm and knowledge of the author. It's an Interesting read for someone interested in Ferrari but it's probably compulsory reading tor the hardcore Ferrarista ... there will be plenty of [them] who will beg and borrow for a copy of this book. And they'll love it. It's sumptuously appointed with photos, anecdotes and plenty of insights into the team that created the car, and the car itself. Recommended reading.
[...] fascinating. Sackey not only draws us into the exclusive world of GTO ownership, he also shares the realities of running the cars and the technical wizardy beneath the surface. Technical drawings abound, the entire owners’ manual is reprinted and period testing photos hint at its untried abilities in tarmac rallying ... overall it’s a good read.
The reprints of the owner's manual and homologation papers will please those who are into facts and figures, and we particularly enjoyed the owners' experiences.

Great book about a great car from "Mr. 288 GTO." - *****
This book is a strong buy! It shows the history, the technic, the numbers, old pictures from prototype to production car and pics from several cars in the here and now. It shows a lot of details which i miss in the Lewandowski book, which is, wihout a doubt one of the greatest car books ever written but for me Joe Sackeys book is a masterpiece, too. You can't and shouldn't compare both with each other, you have to own both! I love the 288 GTO and i don't want to miss this book.
Excellent book - *****
After much anticipation, I finally received my copy of The Book Of The Ferrari 288 GTO. Having read it, I can say that my anticipation was well founded. It has been quite some time since a complete volume was devoted to the 288 GTO, and this one does not disappoint. Experts on the 288 GTO may have little to learn from this work; but it does a brilliant job of condensing most of the available information about these cars in a well produced and well priced volume. A great addition to the library of ANY Ferrarista.
Excellent reference book about the 288 GTO - *****
Excellent book, with high quality pictures, never seen before stuff and a very useful "chassis numbers" section.
A "must have" for 288 GTO owners, and even for every Ferrari collector and enthusiast, at a very low price considering the quality of the book !
Compliment! - *****

"I just received your excellent GTO book from Veloce! Just in time for Christmas ... I know it was a long and arduous task writing the book, dealing with Ferrari, and getting it published. But, I can see that it was definitely worth all the effort. I hope it is very successful for you. Henry"
"Dear Joe, Today I received your book on the GTO. In one word: awesome!! A great job, extensive research, well documented and a masterpiece for a stunning car. Well done and happy to see that you where able to use many pictures of my former GTO. You can imagine I have big regrets of selling... as much as I have not bought the Miura SV you offered me a few years ago. In future I should listen more carefully to you. Again congratulations, and I hope one day to have the GTO and Miura Bible signed by you. Many Greetings - Paul V"
